Birthday gift

Oly not rollingOly is still trying to get the hang of this birthday thing. Today on her forth month b-day she gave poppa the gift of rolling over. Kim was in the shower, so the score is 1 to 1. Since poppa missed out on Murrow’s first flip.

Shaking that moneymaker

rattle_smileYes, it’s been a long while since we last posted here. But at 3 and a half months, it’s not like Oly’s doing a whole lot yet. No rolling or crawling or eating solids or even consistently sleeping through the night yet. Mostly she just seems to sit back and take it all in. And do a whole lot of smiling and cooing. She can sit propped up pretty well… until she starts to slide and her chin ends up pressed against her chest. She also manages to get a couple shakes out of her rattle before losing interest/hand control. So. Her two strengths. Three, if you count the smiling. Captured here for immortality. Or until we stop paying for space from the Interweb Overlords.

Moses never had it so good

For whatever reason, neither of the kids have ever been very enthusiastic about the bouncer, but they do like to sit up and be a part of the action. So sometimes when little Oly is alert-baby (as opposed to sleepy-mummy-baby, at which time I’d have her hang out on the beanbag), she gets propped up in the moses basket and has some chillin’ time with Momma and mo in the office.

It’s a hard life

Oly’s now six weeks old and I’ve been cleared for exercise (joy), so we’ve been going for morning runs on the days big bro goes to school. She mostly sleeps in the jogger but apparently it’s not the most restful of naps, because she always gets home ready for a meal and a nap (join the club, kid). Here she is in her favorite resting spot — the bean bag I made for Poppa’s birthday. And, yes, there’s a little bit of a ‘Garden State’ wallpaper thing going on with the blanket and bloomers (can’t get enough of ’em).

Vindication

At the hospital, Kim and I were thrilled at how well Oly took to breastfeeding. It was much, much easier than it was with Murrow. However, one of the nursery nurses and the doctor on call started getting really uptight that she wasn’t eating enough…it even came down to a threat that they might not let her leave the hospital…getting extremely pushy trying to get us to supplement with formula. Drama ensued, with the final result being that we didn’t supplement and they let us go home as long as we came in for a checkup early this week.

Today was the vindication. Usually babies regain their birth weight in 10 days to 2 weeks, however a week after birth Oly is now 7 lbs 12 ozs…a full 5 ozs over birth weight.

Suck it Houston doctors.
